MALIBU, Calif. â€" Sophomore Tsveta Dimitrova concluded the first day of competition by splitting a pair of matches at the ITA Riviera All-American Championships on Saturday, on the campus of Pepperdine, in Malibu, Calif.
Dimitrova was matched against Giulia Pairone of Arkansas in the opening round of the pre-qualifying stage on Saturday. The duo was locked in a dual in the first set, trading games and playing to a 5-5 tie. With the set square, Dimitrova broke serve to make the score 6-5 before holding serve in the next game to take the set 7-5.
The second set opened with each player breaking and holding serve in the first four games to make set two even at 2-2. However, Pairone evened the match after winning four consecutive games to take the set 6-2.
