Cougars Fall in Straight Sets at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The University of Houston Volleyball program fell 3-0 (24-26, 13-25, 19-25) at LSU on Saturday afternoon inside Maravich Center.
With the decision, the Cougars fall to 4-4 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 9-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
LSU jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead. Later down 16-10, the Cougars went on a 8-1 run to take their first lead of the match at 18-17. The two teams battled to 24-24 before the Tigers closed out with two consecutive points for a 26-24 win.
Set 2
Houston was unable to slow the momentum of LSU in the second set. The Tigers hit a match-high .320 clip, while the Cougars were held to a negative .129 clip in a 25-13 decision.
Set 3
In the third set, LSU never trailed en route to a 25-19 final to close the match in straight sets.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Sophomore outside hitter Megan Duncan led Houston with nine kills and tied senior middle blocker Brianna Gardner with three blocks.
• Setters Abby Irvine and Katie Krebs finished with 14 and 12 assists, respectively.
• Defensively, libero Katie Karbo recorded a match-high 16 digs, her sixth time to lead all players in digs on the season.
• The Cougars recorded six blocks as a team.
• The Tigers outhit Houston, .245-.020.

Houston opens American Athletic Conference play with trips to Tulsa (Sept. 22) and SMU (Sept. 24).
