Allen Named to Unitas Award Watch List

HOUSTON â€" Houston quarterback Kyle Allen is the latest member of the #HTownTakeover to appear on a preseason watch list as the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Foundation announced its list for the 2017 Johnny Unitas Award on Wednesday.
Allen will take the field for Houston this fall for the first time after sitting out the 2016 season under NCAA transfer rules following two seasons at Texas A&M. While at A&M, the Scottsdale, Ariz., native saw action in 20 games with 14 starts.

In his sophomore season, Allen led the Aggies in passing and total offense, completing 160-of-283 passes for 2,210 yards and 17 touchdowns against seven interceptions while adding 102 yards on the ground as he became just the eighth quarterback in Texas A&M history to pass for 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns in a season.
He threw for 1,322 yards and 16 touchdowns as a freshman against seven interceptions on 118-of-192 passing. Allen closed the year with MVP honors in a Liberty Bowl win over West Virginia, throwing for 294 yards and four touchdowns while adding 33 yards rushing.
Coming out of Scottsdale's Desert Mountain High School, Allen was rated the nation's top quarterback by ESPN, Rivals, Scout and 247Sports after throwing for more than 8,000 yards and 86 touchdowns over his high school career.
Allen is the fifth member of the Houston Football program to earn a spot on a preseason awards watch list, joining receiver Linell Bonner (Biletnikoff Trophy), receiver Steven Dunbar (Wuerffel Trophy), center Will Noble (Rimington Trophy) and defensive tackle Ed Oliver (Maxwell Award, Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Outland Trophy).
