Byron Simpson to Retire from Football

HOUSTON â€" Houston Football senior Byron Simpson announced Monday that he unfortunately will be retiring from football due to a non-football related medical condition.
The Cat Spring, Texas, native will remain with the Houston program as a student assistant coach.

Simpson was Houston's starting long snapper in all 13 games in 2016 and recorded a reception on a pivotal fake punt in the second quarter of Houston's 36-10 win over No. 3 Louisville on Nov. 17. Simpson redshirted in 2013, his first year with the program, and was part of teams that advanced to four straight bowls including the 2015 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl team that also claimed the 2015 American Championship.
A University of Houston graduate with a degree in kinesiology - sport administration, Simpson was placed on scholarship prior to the 2016 season and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in project management.
