Heebner Shuts Out ECU, 4-0

HOUSTON -- Behind a complete-game shutout from sophomore Savannah Heebner, the University of Houston Softball team downed East Carolina, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium.
With the decision, the Cougars improve to 21-20 overall and 6-4 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Pirates fall to 25-24 overall and 5-8 in league action.
Heebner bettered her record to 10-8 in the circle behind her fourth shutout of the season and seventh overall of her career. The native of Sedalia, Colo., scattered four hits while striking out eight and walking two.
Cougars Sarah Barker, Breezy Burton, Kaylin Crumpton, Heebner, Maya Thomas and Brooke Vannoy all hit safely. Both Crumpton and Vannoy hit doubles, respectively, with Vannoy's plating the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Burton followed with a three-run, pinch-hit home run in the same frame for cap the 4-0 affair. Burton's jack was also the first homer of her career.
KEY INNINGS
7th | The Cougars broke up the stalemate with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Heebner led off the frame with a single to center field before advancing on a sacrifice bunt from senior Shelby Miller. In the next at bat, Vannoy plated Heebner on a double to left center. Queen followed with a pinch-hit walk before Burton added three more runs for good measure on a home run to left center.
