LAREDO, Texas â€"The University of Houston Men's Golf program returns to action this weekend as it plays host to the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club.
Competing on the 7,125-yard, par-72 course, the Cougars will join 18 other teams in 54 holes over two days. The tournament begins with 36 holes Friday and continues with the final 18 holes Saturday.
Admission is free, and all fans are invited to attend.

The Cougars face Bowling Green, Campbell, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Little Rock, Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeese State, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sacramento State, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, ULM, UTEP and UTSA.

Michael Perras â€" Second on team with 71.24 average and 10 rounds of par or better… Tied for seventh at 4-under 212 to lead the Cougars at the All-American Intercollegiate presented by Coca-Cola… Was the 2016 NCAA Franklin Regional individual champion at 16-under 200… Native of Deer Park, Texas, and product of Deer Park High School.
Papito Gonzalez â€" Leads Cougars with 71.17 average and 12 rounds of par or better … Tied for eighth at Bayou City Collegiate Classic at 1-under 215… Opened that tournament with consecutive sub-par rounds… Opened Maui Jim Intercollegiate with career-low 67 and followed with 70… Led Cougars and tied for 13th at 5-under 208 on Sept. 23-25… Native of McAllen, Texas, and product of Memorial High School.
Matt Williams â€" Posted a 72.22 average with three rounds of par or better… Tied for 25th at the All-American Intercollegiate with a score of even-par 216 (Feb. 17-19, 2017)… Posted a career-low-tying 68 in the Second Round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate (Sept. 24, 2016).
Matt Scobie â€" Three-year letterman… Posted a 72.83 average with four rounds of par or better this season… Tied for 19th at the All-American Intercollegiate presented by Coca-Cola with score of 1-under 215. … Native of Ajax, Ontario, Canada and product of Ajax High School.
Zach Tracy â€"Third on team with 72.42 average and nine rounds of par or better… Fired three straight sub-par rounds to tie for third at 4-under 212 at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational at Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring on Feb. 27-28… Made his collegiate debut a memorable one… Posted three straight rounds of par or better at Bayou City Collegiate Classic to lead Cougars and tie for fifth at 2-under 214 at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas... Sat out as a redshirt with the Cougars in 2015-16… Native of Houston and product of Seven Lakes High School.
Pryce Beshoory â€" Competing as individual… 72.67 average with four rounds of par or better… Opened and closed Royal Oaks Intercollegiate with sub-par rounds and tied for 21st at 215 on Oct. 24-25… Native of Pearland, Texas, and product of Lutheran South Academy… Member of Pearland Little League team, which finished fourth at 2010 Little League World Series.
Tony Gil â€" Competing as individual… 72.50 average with four rounds of par or better… Began Colin Montgomerie Invitational at 71-69 and finished fifth with score of 3-under 213 at Cypresswood Golf Club (Feb. 27-28)… Opened collegiate career with score of 222 at Bayou City Collegiate Classic to tie for 39th at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas… Closed that tournament with a 70… Native of Vaughan, Ontario, and product of Northview Heights Secondary School.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars competed in two tournaments in two countries to close out the month of February.
Houston finished 11th at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate against a field which featured 11 of the nation's top-50 programs on Feb. 26-28 at Querencia Golf Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
In addition, nine student-athletes competed as individuals at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational at Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring, Texas, with redshirt freshman Zach Tracy and Tony Gil earning places among the top-5 leaders on Feb. 27-28.
