Romero Named American Pitcher of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. â€" After helping Houston Baseball to a 7-4 win over No. 7 Cal State Fullerton last Friday, Cougar ace Seth Romero was tabbed the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This honor is Romero's second of the season in just three weeks of play after being named Pitcher of the Week following Opening Weekend when he struck out 12, leading the Cougars to an Opening Night win over Wake Forest.
Houston Baseball went 2-1 this week with win a midweek rout of UTRGV, handing the Vaqueros their first loss of 2017 before splitting with No. 7 Cal State Fullerton at home (7-4, 1-4).
Romero has continued his strikeout dominance, tallying his third straight 10+ strikeout game, bringing his season total to 34 in just three starts and 19.2 innings of work. The southpaw is now 2-1 on the year and owns a 3.20 ERA.
The West Columbia, Texas native has moved into fourth all-time with 239 career strikeouts and now has six 10+-strikeout games (three this season) for sixth-best all-time.

ON DECK
Houston will wrap up this five-game homestand with a Wednesday midweek matchup with Prairie View A&M. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Schroeder Park. The Cougars will then hit the road to Waco to take on Baylor in a three-game series this weekend.
