Houston Sweeps American Weekly Honors

HOUSTON â€" After helping Houston Baseball to a perfect 5-0 week and to its 10th straight win, Cougar duo Trey Cumbie and Connor Wong were named American Athletic Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, announced by the league office Monday.
Cumbie was lights out as the sophomore tossed his first career complete game shutout and second for the Cougars this season as senior John King shutout Baylor on March 12 in a complete-game effort.
Cumbie held the Ragin' Cajuns to just five scattered hits with no inning producing more than one hit.
The Lufkin, Texas native struck out five and went the distance for career-high in innings pitched -- surpassing his previous high of 8.0 innings in a win over Rice last season.
Cumbie allowed just three base runners to advance to at least second base on the night and induced two inning-ending double plays to keep any Louisiana rally from happening.
The win lifted Cumbie's record to a perfect 3-0 mark in five starts. He now enters the week, leading the pitching staff with an ERA of 0.92.
CUMBIE'S GAME BREAKDOWN
Tuesday at Louisiana | 9.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K

Wong led the Cougars at the plate, hitting .458 with 11 hits and five runs and three RBI during the week. He tallied two doubles and slugged .542, while going 4-for-4 on the base path.
The Pearland, Texas native had a hit in every game and went 4-for-5 in the series finale to cap a series sweep at UC Irvine.

Wednesday vs. Texas Southern | 2x4, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2B
Friday at UC Irvine | 1x5
Saturday at UC Irvine | 1x5

This weekly honors marks the first for Wong this season and second of his career.
