PALM CITY, Fla. â€" The University of Houston Men's Golf program completed its trip to Florida with a ninth-place finish Tuesday afternoon at the prestigious Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club.
The Cougars posted a team score of 295 in Tuesday's Final Round to finish with a three-day, 54-hole total of 875 on the 7,114-yard, par-71 course.
The elite tournament features four of the nation's top-20 and nine of top-50 programs, including the Cougars, who check in at No. 49 in the latest Golfstat national poll.
Junior Michael Perras led the Cougars with a score of 218 to tie for 20th. Junior Papito Gonzalez and sophomore Matt Williams each tied for 29th at 220, while freshman Pryce Beshoory tied for 46th at 223. Redshirt freshman Zach Tracy tied for 51st at 225.
Competing as individuals, senior Matt Scobie tied for 53rd at 226, while sophomore Logan Davis tied for 66th at 230. Freshman Tony Gil finished 75th at 240, and sophomore Carson Cavner placed 77th at 242.
Davis, Williams and Tracy tied for team-low honors with 73s in Tuesday's Final Round.
Ranked No. 10 nationally, Wake Forest earned the team championship with a score of 859 to finish one stroke ahead of No. 27 Georgia Tech. No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 18 Texas and No. 12 LSU rounded out the top-five team leaders.
Georgia Tech's Tyler Strafaci posted a 69 for the second straight day and claimed medalist honors at 2-under 211. Wake Forest's Will Zalatoris and South Carolina's Scott Stevens tied for second at 212 with six players posting even-par 213.
UP NEXT
Following the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, the Cougars compete at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on March 25-28, at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Charleston, S.C.
From there, the team closes out the regular season at the 3M Augusta Hills Invitational, hosted by Augusta at Forest Hill Country Club on April 1-2.
