ORLANDO - The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team fell 85-59 on the road at UCF on Wednesday, inside CFE Arena. The Cougars were led offensively by freshman Angela Harris' 22 points.
The Cougars started slow, allowing UCF to open the game on a 7-3 run. Despite shooting just 5-of-13 (38.5 percent) from the field, Houston was able to close the gap by getting to the free-throw line eight times in the quarter and knocking down seven of the freebies. The Cougars grabbed the lead at 16-13 as part of a 7-0 run, led by seven points from Harris.
Harris stayed hot in the second quarter, hitting a pair of 3-pointers to open the frame. However, after her second gave the Cougars the lead 24-23, the Knights broke out on an 11-2 run to reclaim the advantage at 34-26. UCF would extend the lead to as much as 11 in the quarter before the half ended with the Knights on top 43-33.
The Cougars came out of the locker room sluggish in the second half, allowing UCF to begin the third quarter on a 6-2 run. After a Houston timeout, the Coogs were able to right the ship, limiting the Knights to just eight points the remainder of the quarter. During that span, the Cougars finished on a 14-6 run to close the period, led by a pair of 3-point baskets from junior Mariah Mitchell.
The Knights opened the fourth quarter with another strong run, pushing the lead to 14 with a 10-2 mark. Coming out of the timeout, Houston turned the ball over on four straight possessions leading to eight fast-break points, to put the game out of reach.
