Cougars Wrap Homestand with Texas A&M-CC

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis team wraps its season-opening 4-game homestand when it welcomes Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Houston will celebrate Mardi Gras with its fans during the match on Saturday. Fans in attendance will be treated to king cake, a photo booth, t-shirt tosses and other prizes.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Houston enters play on Saturday with a 2-1 spring record after defeating Abilene Christian 5-2 on Jan. 28.
The Cougars have been led by a trio of student-athletes who have tallied a pair of singles wins this season. After dropping her season-opening match, junior Sveva Mazzari has rebounded to pick up wins over Sydney Thomas of Prairie View A&M (6-1, 6-2) and Whitney Williams of Abilene Christian (0-6, 6-2, 6-3) from the No. 3 position.
Freshmen Constandena Nicolaou and Cristina Rovira each opened their rookie campaigns 2-0. Nicolaou defeated UTA's Valeria Lopez 6-2, 6-4 before knocking off Timara Maxwell of Prairie View 6-1, 6-0. Rovira also won each of her first two matches in straight-sets with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Jessica Birowski in the opener and a 6-1, 6-0 win over Stacy Lackey of PVAMU.
Four different doubles teams have won matches for the Cougars this season, and as a team, the Cougars are 2-1 in doubles play. Against the Wildcats of ACU a week ago, each team of Lauren Alter/Ana Glumac and Rovira/Tsveta Dimitrova took home 6-3 victories. Houston also swept doubles play against Prairie View with Dimitrova/Alter winning 6-1, and Mazzari/Rovira winning 6-1 as well.
SCOUTING THE ISLANDERS
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi enters weekend play with a 2-0 spring record after opening the season with a 7-0 win against Prairie View A&M before defeating UT Rio Grande Valley 6-1.
Most recently against the Vaqueros, TAMU-CC swept the doubles points with Louise Trigona and Marian Vicens Miquel winning 6-2 and Hortense Boscher and Alexandra Belle winning 6-3. Boscher and Vicens Miquel would also pick up wins in singles play.
The Islanders have had eight different players win singles matches this season, with Vicens Miquel, Judit Vives and Maria Maldonado each holding a 2-0 record.

The Cougars are proud to introduce the Center Court Club, a restricted-giving program that directly impacts the needs of the University of Houston Tennis program. Gifts to the Center Court Club provide financial support directly to the University of Houston Tennis program for needs beyond the program's operating budget. Revenue generated from the Center Court Club is used at the discretion of the head coach for program enhancements. Membership in the Center Court Club is annual and requires a minimum $100 gift.

For a minimum gift of $100, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball.
ACE
For a minimum gift of $500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation and a stadium blanket.
US OPEN
For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
GRAND SLAM
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
