Perras Named American Golfer of the Week

HOUSTON â€"After leading his team last weekend, University of Houston junior Michael Perras was honored as the American Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Competing at the All-American Intercollegiate presented by Coca-Cola on the Cougars' home course of Golf Club of Houston, Perras led the Cougars to a third-place finish over No. 21 Auburn and No. 39 South Carolina and tied for seventh individually with a score of 4-under 212 for his season-best finish to date.
The Deer Park, Texas, native lowered his score with each round in the tournament, capping his Final Round with a 69. Perras tied for the tournament lead with -5 scoring on par-4 holes and was among the tournament leaders with 13 birdies.
This season, Perras is a close second among the Cougars with a 71.20 scoring average, trailing only teammate Papito Gonzalez by a single stroke for a share of the team lead.
Perras also stands second with nine rounds of par or better and is tied for the team lead with three rounds in the 60s.
Houston Men's and Women's Golf swept Wednesday's weekly awards with sophomore Leonie Harm being recognized as the league's Women's Golfer of the Week.

Perras and the Cougars compete at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate at Querencia Golf Club in San Jose, Cabo, Mexico, beginning Sunday through Tuesday
From there, Houston will host the Border Olympics on March 10-11 at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.
