HOUSTON â€" Houston Baseball duo Grayson Padgett and Seth Romero sweep the first American Athletic Conference weekly honors as Padgett was named Player of the Week and Romero Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.
This Cougar duo helped Houston to a weekend sweep and to a 3-0 record to open the 2017 season at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.

Padgett made just his second career start on Friday night and didn't disappoint. The sophomore helped Houston to two wins over Wake Forest and a victory over Nicholls during Opening Weekend, posting an impressive, team-leading 9-for-12 effort (.750) with six RBI and two runs scored. He slugged 1.000 with a double and triple and walked twice.
PADGETT'S GAME-BY-GAME BREAKDOWN
Friday vs. Wake Forest | 3-for-5, 4 RBI, R, 3B
Saturday vs. Nicholls | 3-for-3, R, BB
Sunday vs. Wake Forest | 3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2B, SB
The Sour Lake, Texas native had three hits in all three games and had two multi-RBI games, which included the game-winning RBI-double in Sunday's win. He helped Houston to three 10+ hit games and to a .352 average through the first weekend of the year.
This weekly honor is the first for Padgett in his young career.

Romero came out strong in his 2017 debut on Friday vs. Wake Forest, striking out 12, one shy of his career-best. The southpaw allowed just one earned run and didn't surrender a walk in 6.0 innings of work for the win.
The West Columbia, Texas native struck out the side in back-to-back innings (5th and 6th) and tallied six strikeouts looking and six swinging.
ROMERO'S GAME BREAKDOWN
Friday vs. Wake Forest | 6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 12 K
This weekly pitching honor is the third of his career. Romero now has four 10+ strikeout games in his career for seventh-best all-time.
