Cougars Sweep Aggies in New Mexico

LAS CRUCES, N.M. â€" The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis team wrapped up a perfect 2-0 weekend with a 4-0 sweep over New Mexico State on Sunday. Houston improved to 4-2 on the season with the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cougars struck first on court 3 in doubles play with a 6-3 win from Sveva Mazzari and Lauren Alter over Lindsay Harlas and Eli Arnaudova. Houston would go on to clinch the doubles point with a victory on court 1 from Tsveta Dimitrova and Cristina Rovira. The duo defeated Rimpledeep Kaur and Gabrielle Joyce 6-4 to improve to 3-1 as a team this season.
On court 2, Ana Glumac and Constandena Nicolaou fell 6-2 to Vanessa Valdez and Rebecca Keijzerwaard.
Dimitrova extended Houston's lead with the first singles win of the day on court 1. The freshman defeated Kaur in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to win her third dual match of the season.
Alter was the next Cougar to follow with a win on court 4, in another straight-set victory. Alter won set one 6-2 over Arnaudova before clinching the match with a 6-4 win in set two. Her victory is the third this season and was the second on the weekend.
Mazzari brought home the match-clinching point with Houston's third singles win. Playing on court 2, Mazzari defeated Valdez 6-4, 6-1 to seal the victory. The junior's win was her team-leading fourth of the season.
The Cougars held leads on all three of the remaining courts when play was halted. On court 3, Rovira led Keijzerwaard 7-5, 3-1, while on court 5, Nicolaou led 6-1, 5-4 over Marie-Pier Thiffault, and Glumac led Harlas 6-4, 2-1 on court 6.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars continue their month-long road trip with a pair of matches in Louisiana. Houston takes on American Athletic Conference foe Tulane on Friday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m., before meeting LSU on Feb. 19 at 11 a.m.

For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
