HOUSTON -- With a focus on becoming Champions for Life, more than 400 University of Houston student-athletes take daily steps in becoming champions in academics, athletics and as members of their community.
The focus was realized yet again this week as Houston saw its overall graduate success rate (GSR) of 69 percent climb another 3 percent from the previous year's report. Over the last three years, Houston has improved its GSR by 6 percent as the latest result is the second-best in department history.

The Houston Tennis program led the way in the latest release of GSR data from the NCAA, recording a 100 percent rate.
The latest NCAA GSR report accounts for student-athletes who entered school in a four-year period from 2007-10. The GSR was developed 13 years ago as an improved measurement tool for tracking student-athletes' academic progress leading toward graduation.
This week's honor is just the latest sign of academic progress in the Houston Department of Athletics as last spring, UH student-athletes recorded the highest spring GPA (2.95), highest cumulative GPA following a spring semester (2.93) and the highest average hours passed in a spring semester (14.1) in program history.
