BASEBALL
Last Week
In conjunction with Shriners Hospitals for Children and the College Classic at Minute Maid Park (March 2-4), Houston Baseball welcomed Luc Wehby from Shriners Hospitals to Schroeder Park for a 'Day with the Coogs', a VIP experience.
Notes
Luc, a 12-year old from Kingwood, Texas, loves baseball and competed on a travel team prior to sustaining a brain injury earlier this year … He is currently undergoing physical therapy … During his VIP experience, Luc was able to experience what it's like playing college baseball, take in a Houston Cougar practice, meet and greet with the players and coaches and tour the facilities that baseball occupies on a daily basis … Houston will compete in the College Classic for the 17th year when it faces Kentucky (Friday, March 2 â€" 3:30 pm), Mississippi State (Saturday, March 3 â€" 7 pm) and Vanderbilt (Sunday, March 4 â€" 6 pm) in 2018 at Minute Maid Park, home of the World Series Champion Houston Astros.

Sophomore guard Armoni Brooks poured in a career-high 22 points with six rebounds to lead the Cougars … Brooks connected on 8-of-11 shots from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the 3-point line while hitting his lone free throw attempt … Senior guard Wes VanBeck posted 14 points with three 3-pointers and added three rebounds … Making his collegiate debut, junior guard Corey Davis Jr. finished with 12 points, two rebounds and tied for game-high honors with five assists … Senior forward Devin Davis did a little of everything with seven points, five rebounds and five assists, while junior forward Breaon Brady nearly finished with a double-double with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds in his Houston debut … Season tickets for the 2017-18 campaign are on sale for fans … Fans can purchase Reserved season tickets for $200, while General Admission tickets are available for only $100 at uhcougars.com/tickets … As the former Hofheinz Pavilion is transformed into the $60-million Fertitta Center, the Cougars will play their 2017-18 home games inside Health & PE Arena on the campus of nearby Texas Southern University.

Sophomore forward Dorian Branch led the Cougars with a career-best 17 points while also matching a career high with two assists … Sophomore guard Angela Harris added 14 points, four rebounds and three assists, while sophomore guard Jasmyne Harris contributed 12 points, five boards and matched a career best with five assists … Junior Serithia Hawkins led the Cougars on the glass with eight rebounds while adding 10 points.

Barraza took second with a time of 29:51.5 … With the second-place finish, Barraza booked a spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championships as an individual for the third time in his career … Junior G.J. Reyna and seniors Chris Wallace and Gabe Lara all finished within two seconds of each other … Reyna placed 41st in 31:23.9, while Wallace and Lara placed 42nd and 43rd, respectively, with Wallace finishing in 21:25.2 and Lara clocking a 31:25.6 … Freshman Devin Fahey rounded out the scoring for the men in 84th at 32:16.6 … The Cougar men scored 203 points and finished sixth overall as a team … The final ranking for the Cougars is their highest finish at the regional meet since 2004, when the team placed fourth … For the third time this season, Jennifer Dunlap led the Houston women's team across the line … In the 6,000-meter race, Dunlap finished in 73rd with a time of 21:45.6 … Junior Britani Gonzales took 80th with a time of 21:55.4, while senior Maria Gonzales ran 22:07.5 to place 92nd … Senior Emely Morgado finished in 22:42.0 to place 121st, while Ebony White capped the scoring in 132nd at 22:49.9 … The Cougar women finished 21st overall with 483 points … For full results, click here.

Dauzat posted a 3.98 GPA as a first-year graduate student currently working on her MBA … In 2017, Dauzat recorded six goals, two assists and 14 points … She helped the Cougars to a 7-9-1 overall record in 2017 and 3-6-0 mark in The American, the most American Conference wins in program history.

Senior Micaela Bouter posted a third-place finish in the 3-meter with a score of 315.20 while also taking sixth place in the 1-meter with a score of 255.05 … Sophomore Lauren Burrell finished in seventh place in the 3-meter with a total of 287.95 points. For 1-meter results, click here … For 3-meter results, click here … From 1975-1996, Hansel was the most influential man for Houston Swimming & Diving … He guided the Cougars to more than 70 dual meet victories and ten Top 20 finishes at the AIAW and NCAA Championships … In 1996, Hansel finished out the season with over 39 years of coaching experience and was recognized as one of the most successful collegiate swim coaches in the nation … Hansel was inducted into the Hall of Honor on Nov. 14, 2008.
