Houston Falls at Temple, 3-0

PHILADEPHIA -- The University of Houston Volleyball program fell 3-0 (19-25, 23-25, 20-25) at Temple on Friday night inside McGonigle Hall.
With the decision, the Cougars fall to 8-11 on the season and 4-7 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Owls improve to 12-7 overall and 9-2 in league action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
After falling behind to open the match, Houston rallied to tie things up at 6-6. The two teams then traded points to get to 8-8 before Temple went on an 8-3 run to pull away for a 25-19 decision.
Set 2
Tied 5-5 early in the second set, the Owls went on a 10-5 run to take a 15-10 lead. However, the Cougars rallied with a 4-0 surge, highlighted by a pair of kills from sophomore outside hitter Megan Duncan to pull within one point. Temple maintained the advantage and later led 21-16 before Houston again rallied to tie the set at 23-23. Unfortunately, the Owls got a kill and took advantage of a Cougar attack error to prevail, 25-23, for a 2-0 lead at intermission.
Set 3
In the third set, Temple never trailed en route to a 25-20 decision to close the match in straight sets.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Senior setter Keandra McCardell recorded her third double-double of the season and 32nd of her career in a 14-assist, 10-dig effort.
• Freshman setter Abby Irvine finished with a team-high 17 assists.
• Senior outside hitter Brianna Lynch led Houston with 11 kills, her 10th time to lead the team on the season.
• Senior outsider hitter Sarah Afflerbaugh tallied eight kills and 10 digs.
• Defensively, sophomore libero Katie Karbo recorded a match-high 18 digs, her 14th time to lead all players in digs on the season.
• Temple outhit the Cougars, .278-.184.

The Cougars will continue play in The American with an 11 a.m. CT first serve at UConn on Sunday.
