MEN'S BASKETBALL

Houston's Men's Basketball Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and seniors Rob Gray, Wes VanBeck and Devin Davis took part in the 2017 American Athletic Conference Media Day on Monday … Gray was named to The American Preseason First Team … In 2016-17, Gray led the Cougars and The American with 20.6 points per game, becoming Houston's eighth conference scoring champion in school history and the first since Aubrey Coleman led the nation in 2010 … The Cougars were tabbed sixth in The American Preseason Coaches Poll … Houston will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Game of the Century between Houston and UCLA in 1968 and introduces the 2017-18 squad on Nov. 3 inside the Moores Opera House … Members of the 1967-68 team, including Elvin Hayes and Don Chaney, will join host, CBS Sports broadcaster and UH alumnus Jim Nantz for a round-table discussion beginning at 7 p.m., Nov. 3, inside the Moores Opera House … Players and support staff members from the Game of the Century will share their memories about that game and the impact it still has on college basketball today … Legendary sports broadcaster Dick Enberg â€" who called the play-by-play action for the Game of the Century for TVS network â€" and CBS Sports analyst Seth Davis also will join the panel … Sampson will join the panel and offer his memories of that game … Sampson, his staff and student-athletes from the 2017-18 team will be recognized during the event … The event will then air in January 2018 as part of a documentary on CBS Sports Network celebrating the golden anniversary of the Game of the Century. Chip Rives and Emilie Deutsch will produce the documentary for CBS Sports Network … Entering their fourth season under Sampson, the Cougars open their season Nov. 10 against McNeese inside H&PE Arena on campus of Texas Southern University … Will be the first of 15 regular-season home games in Houston … Season tickets for the 2017-18 campaign are on sale for fans … To enjoy 15 regular-season home games, fans can purchase Reserved season tickets for $200, while General Admission tickets are available for only $100 at uhcougars.com/tickets … Current season-ticket holders can visit uhcougars.com/tickets and follow the appropriate links to renew their season tickets online at any time … As the former Hofheinz Pavilion is transformed into the $60-million Fertitta Center, the Cougars will play their 2017-18 home games inside Health & PE Arena on the campus of nearby Texas Southern University.

The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Cross Country teams wrapped the regular season with a pre-cursor race for the NCAA Championships at the 2017 Adidas Pre-National meet on Saturday in Louisville, Ky.

The Houston men opened the action in the Men's 8,000-meter seeded race … Senior Brian Barraza kept pace with his strong season and crossed the line first for the Cougars in a 10th-place finish in 23:22.1 … G.J. SOFTBALL
Last Week
Houston Softball closed its fall schedule with a 3-1 record at the Spring Klein College Classic. The Cougars defeated Galveston College, 10-0, before falling 4-2 to Texas State on Saturday. On Sunday, Houston picked up 7-0 and 2-1 victories over Tyler Junior College and Trinity Valley Community College.

Houston closed its fall schedule with a 5-1 record, outscoring opponents 43-5.
SWIMMING & DIVING

The Houston Swimming & Diving program notched 38 top-three finishes en route to a 182-110 win over Incarnate Word in its season opener on Thursday.

TRACK & FIELD

Houston Cougar Track & Field Head Coach and legendary United States Olympic athlete Leroy Burrell was named as a 2017 inductee into the USATF National Track & Field Hall of Fame … The class will be inducted at the USATF Black Tie & Sneakers Gala in New York City on Nov. 2 … Burrell made international headlines in 1989 when he helped the Santa Monica Track Club break the 4x200-meter relay world record … The squad also consisting of assistant coach and Houston legend Carl Lewis, Director of Student-Athlete Development at Houston Floyd Heard and Danny Everett ran 1:20.26 to set the world mark … Just two seasons after his record-setting relay run, Burrell garnered his first individual world record when he ran 9.90 in the 100-meter at the TAC Championships in New York City … When his career was over, Burrell had set world record marks in the 4x100-meter relay as well as two more 4x200-meter relay times and a recapture of the 100-meter dash record in 1994 … At the collegiate level, Burrell claimed three NCAA Championships including a pair of long jump crowns in the indoor slate … In the outdoor circuit, Burrell claimed gold at the 1990 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a title in the 100-meter dash … Burrell returned to Houston as the head coach of the track & field program in 1998 after the retirement of legendary coach and his mentor Tom Tellez … In 20 years as head coach, Burrell has won 33 conference championships and has coached Errol Nolan to an indoor National Championship in the 400-meter dash in 2013 as well as the 2017 National Champions in the 4x100-meter relay.

At Cincinnati on Friday, senior outside hitter Brianna Lynch recorded a career-high 23 kills … At ECU on Sunday, freshman setter Abby Irvine recorded her team-leading fourth double-double of the season with a 21-assist, career-high 16-dig effort … Senior setter Keandra McCardell moved into fifth all-time at Houston with 2,888 career assists, passing Bethany Hill (2,865; 1995-98).
