Houston Falls in Overtime to UConn

STORRS, Conn. â€" The Houston Soccer team fell short in a 3-2 overtime loss to UConn, Sunday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston came out strong in the opening minutes, earning an early corner kick a mere 45 seconds in. 13 minutes later, Jazmin Grant would make contact with a long pass from Lauren Flowers to score the first goal of the game for either team and give Houston a 1-0 lead.
The Huskies would counter with a pair of goals inside the 18th and 26th minute, taking a 2-1 lead at the break.
Houston came out strong after the break, outshooting UConn 14-6 in the second frame. Houston would capitalize on a UConn foul, gaining possession inside the 69th minute. Grant would cut to the goal where she'd find the back of the net following a UConn deflection, tying the game 2-2. Both teams would go back and forth up until the end of regulation.
The Huskies would knock in the game-winner inside the 91st minute and win the match.
Rachel Estopare returned to the goal for Houston, racking up nine saves on 17 attempts.
FIRE POWER
- Seven Cougars recorded shots during that match, led by Grant with five shots and three on target.
- This is the second multi-goal game for Grant this season, after scoring two against Northern Arizona.
OTHER NOTABLES
- Houston falls to 5-8-1 on the season and 1-5-0 in American action.
- Houston is 0-2-1 in overtime matches this season.
- UConn now leads the all-time series with UConn 0-4-1
UP NEXT
Houston will return home to close out its home slate at the Carl Lewis Complex with a Thursday morning match against Cincinnati and Sunday meeting with ECU for Senior day.
