NCBWA PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA TEAMS
DALLAS, Texas -- Houston Baseball sophomore slugger Joe Davis was tabbed a Preseason All-American by NCBWA as the organization named the first baseman to the Second Team announced Tuesday.
This preseason nod by NCBWA is the second preseason All-America honor for the Austin, Texas native after being named to the third team by Collegiate Baseball.
Davis is one of only seven underclassman named to the NCBWA All-America First or Second Teams and is the only underclassman infielder named among the top two teams.
The sophomore represented Houston in the College Home Run Derby in Omaha last summer, finishing second in the contest as a true freshman.
ABOUT DAVIS
Davis returns to the Cougars for his second season and has already gained national attention, being tabbed as the American Preseason Player of the Year. He returns after one of the most historic freshman campaigns in Houston Baseball history where he earned American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year honors and was an All-American and five-time Freshman All-American award winner following last season.
The Austin, Texas native broke the Houston all-time freshman record in home runs (14) and RBI (58), while tying the doubles record (17). Davis finished second on the team with a .331 average and led Houston with 25 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI games.
