Volleyball Enjoys Red and White Day

HOUSTON â€" The University of Houston Volleyball took another step closer in its 2016 season preparations with Red and White Day inside the Athletics/Alumni Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars hosted a free youth clinic for children in the eighth grade or younger earlier in the day and then squared off against one another in an intrasquad, three-set scrimmage.
During the match, the Cougars focused on team systems while the coaching staff used several different lineups to evaluate the teamwork and compatibility. Student-athletes went in and out of the match, competing for both sides depending on the situation.
Freshman Faith Squier, sophomore Bryanna Lawerence, Chenelle Walker and redshirt freshman Makayla Randle each tied for team-high honors with seven kills in the match. Freshman setter Halle Evans led the way with 22 assists, while freshman Abby Giles posted a team-high 14 digs.
OPENING THE SEASON
Houston Volleyball opens the 2016 season across town at the Houston Baptist Tournament Aug. 26-27. The Cougars are scheduled to open tourney play on Friday against Louisiana-Lafayette for the second straight year at 4:30 p.m.
Houston opens the home slate Sept. 2-3 with the Houston Cougar Classic as the Coogs hosts Lamar, Texas Southern and Idaho State.
