Volleyball Announces 2016 Schedule

HOUSTON -- Head Coach Kaddie Platt announced the Houston Volleyball schedule for the 2016 campaign on Wednesday afternoon that will include four tournaments in the City of Houston and 16 home matches.
"It is great to be hosting two tournaments during preseason. We are looking forward to playing in front of our home crowd in the Cougar Den at the beginning of the season," Platt said.
"As usual, the American Athletic Conference is going to be very competitive. We have targets on our back from our big wins in 2015 and we are looking forward to the fierce competition that the American Volleyball programs have created."

The Cougars will open the season with the annual Red & White Day on Saturday, Aug. 20. The team will hold a Red & White Scrimmage and Red & White Clinic. The clinic is free for children eighth grade and under.
Houston begins the season across town at the Houston Baptist Tournament on Aug. 26-27. The Cougars will face Louisiana-Lafayette, Weber State and Houston Baptist during the two-day tournament.
On Sept. 2-3, the Cougars are set to host Texas Southern, Idaho State and Lamar for the 2016 Cougar Classic.
Platt and company closes out tournament play with the sixth annual Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup on Sept. 9-10. Houston welcomes San Jose State, Houston Baptist and ULM for the two-day tournament. Following the final game on Saturday, the team will host a free clinic for children eighth grade and under.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
Houston opens its fourth season in the American Athletic Conference on the road at UConn (Sept. 23) and at Temple (Sept. 25).
The following weekend, the Cougars kick off the conference home slate by hosting Tulsa and SMU in the Athletics/Alumni Center on Sept 30, Oct. 2.
Houston will play 20 conference matches, 10 at home and 10 on the road - competing against all 10 schools in a home and home series. Most American matches will be played on Friday and Sunday with varying times depending on location. With an odd number of conference members, Houston will play travel partner Tulane in two midweek games on Oct. 19 and Nov. 9.
Houston will also play Cincinnati and East Carolina on a Thursday/Saturday schedule at home (Oct. 13, 15) and on the road (Nov. 17, 19) to help with travel and recovery time.
