Davis to Participate in College HR Derby in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. â€"Houston Baseball freshman Joe Davis has been invited and will compete in the seventh annual TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby. Davis will join some of college baseball's best sluggers at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska Sunday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. CT. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
Eight contestants will swing for the fences in hopes of claiming the 2016 College Home Run Derby crown. Joining Davis will be: Colby Bortles (Ole Miss), Dylan Busby (Florida State), Greg Deichmann (LSU), Hagen Owenby (East Tennessee State), Brent Rooker (Mississippi State), Reid Russell (Lamar), Gary Russo (Miami OH).

Davis will become the first Cougar in program history to compete in the college home run derby after leading the Cougars and ranking second in the American Athletic Conference with 14 home runs in his true freshman season.
The Austin, Texas native broke the all-time Houston freshman record in home runs with 14 and RBI with 58, while tying the record with 17 doubles. He has been named a Freshman All-American by five publications and was a Third Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball along with being named the American's Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection.
Davis became the fifth Cougar in program history to hit two grand slams in his career and the third Cougar in history to hit two in one season.
Davis has selected Houston Director for Player Development Ryan Shotzberger as his home run derby pitcher. The duo will travel to Omaha, Neb. this weekend to represent the Cougars during the nationally-televised event on ESPN2.
Tickets for the 2016 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby are $8 for children (ages 3-12), $12 for adults, or a "Family-Four-Pack" for $36, and may be purchased in-person from the CenturyLink Center arena box offices, by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. - Hit first career grand slam in win over Rice and second vs. No. 11 Tulane
- Named to Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team
- Named American Rookie of the Year
- Named First Team All-American Athletic Conference (1B)
- Named to the American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team
- Named to All-Silver Glove Series vs. Rice
- Was a five-time American Weekly Honor Roll honoree
