Baseball Falls in Final Home Game, 4-3

HOUSTON - Houston Baseball rallied to overcome an early deficit, but fell just short, falling 4-3, in the American Athletic Conference regular-season finale to Tulane on Saturday evening at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
With the loss, the Cougars wrap up the regular-season with a 33-22 overall record and an 11-12 mark to finish as the No. 5 seed for next week's Championship.
ON DECK
Houston will travel to Clearwater, Fla. next week for the American Championship and will face Cincinnati in Game 1 on Tuesday at 2 p.m. CT on CBS Sports Network.

Houston out hit Tulane, 8-6 as sophomore Zac Taylor led the way with his first home run of the year. Senior Jacob Campbell had a multi-hit game and drove in a run, while senior Justin Montemayor had an RBI-hit.
Tulane jumped out to an early 3-0 lead following two home runs in the first inning, but junior Andrew Lantrip settled in and kept the Green Wave at bay over the next three innings.
Houston scratched across a run in the fourth inning thanks to a Campbell RBI-single -- trimming Tulane's lead to two runs.
After a nearly four hour rain delay, the Cougars jumped out to a hot start with a run in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. Campbell doubled and then scored on a Montemayor RBI-single.
Tulane quickly responded to regain its lead with a 4-3 advantage thanks to another home run -- a solo shot over the right center wall.
Reliever John King (2.0,2,1,1,1,2) worked the fifth and sixth innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk with two strikeouts, before handing the ball to junior closer Nick Hernandez (2.1,0,0,0,0,4) struck out four in his 2.1 innings in relief.
King suffered the loss, falling to 6-4 on the year after surrendering the game-winning home run in the seventh.
Houston starter Andrew Lantrip (4.2,4,3,3,0,4) worked 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with four strikeouts for the no decision.
Tulane reliever J.P. France (4.0,2,1,1,1,1) earned the win for the Green Wave to move to 6-2 on the year.
