Women's Golf Opens at The American Championships

PALM COAST, Fla. -- The University of Houston Women's Golf program will tee off this weekend at the American Athletic Conference Championships at the Hammock Beach Resort and Golf Club.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 7 a.m. (CDT), Sunday, on the 6,225-yard, par-72 Ocean Course with 18 holes each day through Tuesday. Admission is free and open to the public.
The 28th-ranked Cougars will face off against all nine American Athletic women's golf programs: UCF, Cincinnati, No. 32 East Carolina, Memphis, USF, No. 29 SMU, No 44 Tulane and Tulsa.

Houston enters the postseason after finishing sixth at the Clemson Invitational on April 1-3 in Sunset, S.C. Sophomore Yuka Kajiki fired off a Final-Round 69 to finish in 11th place and lead the Cougars.
FIRST-ROUND PAIRINGS
Head coach Gerrod Chadwell and assistant coach Lucy Nunn will use the same lineup for the third consecutive tournament with Kajiki, senior Raegan Bremer, freshman Leonie Harm, sophomore Megan Thothong and junior Emily Gilbreth.
For Sunday's First Round, the Cougars will compete off No. 1 in threesomes with student-athletes from SMU and East Carolina. Bremer begins the day at 8:40 a.m. (CDT) with Kajiki (8:50 a.m. CDT), Gilbreth (9 a.m. CDT), Harm (9:10 a.m. CDT) and Thothong (9:20 a.m. CDT) following.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Thothong sits atop the leaderboard this season as the Cougars' top golfer. The sophomore from Dallas, Texas earned one of the Cougars' two wins this season and leads the team with a 74.26 scoring average and eight rounds of par or better with two top-5
finishes. Thothong has competed in all nine tournaments this season and matched her best finish when she successfully defended her title at the UNF Collegiate.
Bremer, the only senior in the group, has played in all nine tournaments this season. The Anaheim Hills, Calif. native set back-to-back career bests when she fired a Second-Round 70 and a Final-Round 68 in the Mason Rudolph Championship.
Her best finish came when she placed sixth at this year's UCF Challenge. She has one top-10 finish and is tied for second on the team with a 74.41 scoring average.
Kajiki has been one of the Cougars' most consistent players this season. The Hiroshima, Japan, native has played in all nine tournaments for the Cougars.
Her best tournament came early in the season at the Jim West Challenge where she finished at 2-under-par 214 and tied for ninth place. She matched a career-best 68 in the Final Round of that event and is tied for second on the team with a 74.41 scoring average.
Gilbreth has competed in all nine tournaments for the Cougars. The Bellaire, Texas, native earned one of the Cougars' two wins this season when she tied for first place in the UNF Collegiate after matching a career-best 70 in the Final Round.
Harm will make her American Athletic Conference Championship debut this weekend. The Gerlingen, Germany, native has competed in three tournaments this season and recently set multiple career bests at the Clemson Invitational with a First-Round 69 and a finished among the top 20 with a score of 223.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
This marks the third consecutive season the Cougars will play in The American Championship and their second straight season competing as a team.
In 2015, the Cougars finished third with a team score of 878 , and Kajiki led the Cougars at 2-under-par 214 toe tie for third.

Following The American Championships, the Cougars look to compete in the NCAA Regionals, beginning May 5-7 at a site to be determined.
The Cougars will learn their NCAA postseason fate during the NCAA Selection Show at 5 p.m., April 25 on The Golf Channel.
