In the Cougars' most recent team play, sophomore Michael Perras and senior Vincent Martino each fired a score of 1-under-par 215 to tie for 20th at the 3M Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club on April 2-3 to lead Houston into a tie for seventh in the team standings.
ABOUT the COUGARS
Now in his seventh year with the Cougars, Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke recently released the Cougars' starting lineup for this weekend. Seniors Martino and Blair Hamilton, sophomores Perras and Papito Gonzalez and redshirt freshman Logan Davis will represent the team, while junior Emmett Oh and Gibbons will play as individuals.
Hamilton has been one of the Cougars leading performers for the last two seasons. The Burlington, Ontario, native ranks second on the team with a 72.45 scoring average and 13 rounds of par or better.
In 10 tournaments to date, Hamilton has earned eight top-20 finishes, including a season-best fourth-place showing at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in the fall.
Off the course, he was honored as the American Athletic Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and will graduate this spring with a degree in communications.
Competing in his final collegiate season, Martino has posted a 72.65 average with 10 rounds of par or better. The Southlake Carroll High product opened the season by capturing the individual title at the Northern Intercollegiate in the fall, thanks to a Second-Round 66.
He has posted four top-20 finishes in 2015-16 with his 20th-place showing at the recent 3M Augusta Invitational.
In only two seasons, Perras has proven to be one of the Cougars' most consistent leaders. He leads the Cougars with a 72.07 scoring average and 15 rounds of par or better while totaling eight top-20 finishes in 10 tournaments to date.
The Deer Park, Texas, native earned medalist honors at the HBU Husky Intercollegiate in his season debut in the fall and tops the team with four top-5 finishes in 2015-16.
Gonzalez broke into the Cougars' starting lineup during the spring season and has made himself a fixture there. The McAllen, Texas, native won the 1-day, 36-hole President's Day Challenge at Shadow Hawk Golf Club.
Davis is in his first season of competition with the Cougars after sitting out as a redshirt a year ago. This season, the Atascocita, Texas, native has enjoyed a pair of top-10 finishes, including a second-place showing at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational.
Oh will compete in his 10th tournament of the season this weekend. The Calgary, Alberta, native tied for second at the President's Day Challenge and enjoyed a 10th-place finish at the Cougars' own All-American Intercollegiate.
