Joe Davis Named American Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. â€" Houston Baseball freshman Joe Davis has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after leading the Cougars to a series win over UCF this past weekend, announced by the conference office on Monday.
The Austin, Texas native had a hit in all four games last week, including a multi-hit game in each of the three games vs. the Knights. He belted the game-winning home run in the sixth inning on Sunday to clinch the series win over UCF as the game ended in a 1-0 advantage for the Cougars.
Davis hit .467 (7x15) on the week, scored two runs and had one RBI â€" following a home run. He has a team-leading 17 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games.
He continues to pace the Cougars with a .371 average, 46 hits and 32 RBI to accompany seven home runs.
The honor is the first for the freshman as he has been named to the weekly honor roll three times this season.
Joining Davis and recognized by the league office for his performance vs. UCF was freshman Mitch Ullom, who was named to the weekly honor roll.
Ullom fired his first career complete game shutout in a 1-0 win on Sunday vs. the Knights. The Sweeny, Texas native allowed just seven scattered hits, no runs, no walks with two strikeouts for his team-leading fifth win of the year.
He is now 5-1 and 2-0 in conference play and owns a 1.77 ERA in seven appearances and six starts for the Cougars this season.
Tulane's Emerson Gibbs was named the American Pitcher of the Week.
