Houston Adds Alex Fontana to 2016 Signing Class

HOUSTON - The Houston Football program added a 24th member to its 2016 signing class Friday with the signing of junior college transfer offensive lineman Alex Fontana. Fontana joins the Houston program after one season at the New Mexico Military Institute and one season at ASA College.

Fontana (6-3, 310) will have two years of eligibility remaining and be eligible to play immediately in 2016. The Toronto, Canada, native played his high school ball at Kent Prep High School where he was named to the 2013 All-New England First Team and the 2013 All-Canadian High Schools Second Team by Top Prospects Canada.
Starting at center at NMMI, Fontana earned Honorable Mention All-Western States Football League honors at offensive line. Fontana participated in the Blue-Grey All-American Football game and also participated in wrestling, rugby and track & field in high school.
He is the fifth offensive linemen of the 2016 signing class and joins a class that is being lauded as the top class in Houston Football history.
The class includes three players in the ESPN 300 â€" defensive tackle Ed Oliver, receiver Courtney Lark and quarterback D'Eriq King â€" and seven players ranked in the top 10 nationally at their positions â€" quarterback Kyle Allen (No. 1 quarterback in 2014), running back Duke Catalon (No. 10 running back in 2014), defensive back J.J. Dallas (No. 9 junior college cornerback), offensive lineman Keenan Murphy (No. 5 center), Ed Oliver (No. 2 defensive tackle), offensive lineman Na'Ty Rodgers (No. 4 junior college offensive tackle) and defensive back Terrell Williams (No. 9 junior college safety).
