BATON ROUGE, La. - TThe University of Houston Women's Golf program looks for its third straight championship to open the spring season when it competes at the LSU Tiger Classic this weekend at the University Club.
The tournament begins with 18 holes with split-tee starts at 8:30 a.m., Sunday and Monday and the final 18 holes scheduled for an 8:30 a.m.. shotgun start on the 6,237-yard, par-72 course. Fans can follow live scoring by visiting Golfstat.com and following the appropriate links or by clicking here.
The Cougars enter this weekend's tournament after successfully defending their team and individual titles at the UNF Collegiate at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club on March 7-8. Houston posted a score of even-par 288 to win the team title by 10 strokes over Texas.
Individually, sophomore Megan Thothong and junior Emily Gilbreth earned medalist honors with scores of 217. Thothong captured the individual crown for the second straight season, while Gilbreth won the first title of her collegiate career.
The Cougars will compete in a 17-team field, which includes No. 33 NC State, No. 34 Tulane, Denver, Kentucky, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 41 North Carolina, Oklahoma, UNC Wilmington, No. 29 Notre Dame, No. 18 Tennessee, Mississippi, Mississippi State, No. 3 Duke, Wake Forest, Auburn and host No. 5 LSU.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Third-year Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell recently unveiled the Cougars' starting lineup. Thothong, Gilbreth, freshman Leonie Harm, sophomore Yuka Kajiki and senior Raegan Bremer will represent the Cougars at the LSU Tiger Classic.
For Sunday's First Round, the Cougars will compete with student-athletes from Notre Dame and NC State and start the day off No. 1. Bremer begins at 9:254 a.m., with Kajiki (9:33 a.m.), Gilbreth (9:42 a.m.), Harm (9:51 a.m.) and Thothong (10 a.m.) following.
Thothong leads the Cougars with a 73.57 scoring average and nine rounds of par or better. The Dallas native has finished among the top-20 leaders in all but one tournament to date and captured the second title of her career at the UNF Collegiate on March 7-8.
Harm joined the Cougars at the semester break and will compete in her second tournament. She finished 94th at the UNF Collegiate with a two-round score of 148 in her collegiate debut.
Gilbreth used a Final-Round 70 at the UNF Collegiate on March 8 to share medalist honors with Thothong. It was her fourth top-20 finish this season and the ninth of her career.
Kajiki has been a regular in the Cougars' starting lineup during her sophomore season. She tied for 12th at the UNF Collegiate and earned a season-best ninth-place finish at the Jim West Challenge late in the fall season.
Bremer, who is a two-time All-American Athletic Conference honoree, has posted four top-2- finishes this season with a season-best sixth-place finish at the UCF Challenge on Feb. 7-9.
UP NEXT
Following the LSU Tiger Classic, the Cougars will compete at the HBU Husky Invitational at Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, on March 28-29.
From there, Houston will compete at the Clemson Invitational on March 31-April 3 at The Reserved at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.
