HOUSTON â€" Ten sprinters and jumpers from the Houston Men's Track and Field program will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., this Friday for the Arkansas Qualifier, the final regular-season opportunity to improve national marks.
Five sprinters will compete in the 200-meter dash, led by junior Curtis Brown who owns the fifth-fastest time in The American Athletic Conference this season at 21.53. He'll be joined by senior Isaac Williams and freshmen Mario Burke, Marcus McWilliams and Amere Lattin.
Ranked No. 21 in the nation and No. 2 in The American, Williams will take to the track in the 60-meter hurdles while senior LeShon Collins will run on the straightaway in the 60-meter dash, an event he holds the No. 10 national ranking and No. 3 American ranking in.
McWilliams will also make his collegiate debut in the long and triple jumps on Friday, and will be joined by sophomore Trumaine Jefferson in the long jump.
Ranked No. 2 in The American, the men's 4x400-meter relay will take to The Randal Tyson Track Center as will freshmen Raymund Clarke and Gerald Mills in the 400-meter dash.
The meet serves as Houston's final competition prior to The American Championships, Feb. 28-29 in Birmingham, Ala. The Houston men will look to defend their 2015 indoor title while the Houston women are primed to improve on last year's seventh-place finish.
