Jasmyne Harris Named American Freshman of the Week

PROVIDENCE â€" For the second consecutive week, freshman shooting guard Jasmyne Harris has been named American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week for her play against Texas Tech and Rutgers, the league office announced Monday.
"I'm so proud of the way Jasmyne has come around in such a short time this season," Head Coach Ronald Hughey said. "She continues to improve each and every day in practice and in our games, and it shows with these awards."
Harris averaged 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds over two games while also picking up six assists and three steals in 52 combined minutes of action. The award is Harris' second this season and the Cougars' third after Angela Harris claimed the honor on Nov. 28.
Jasmyne Harris scored 14 points and pulled down four rebounds while going 5-of-7 from the field in the team's loss to Texas Tech on Wednesday, but it was her play against Rutgers that helped spark Houston's come-from-behind win. Against the Scarlet Knights, Harris scored 12 points and picked up 11 boards for her first career double-double while also adding a career-high five assists.
This season, Harris has appeared in all eight games and is averaging 21.6 minutes per contest. She has scored 8.0 points per game, while collecting 6.4 boards per contest.

The Cougars open up a three-game swing away from Hofheinz Pavilion this week. On Wednesday, Dec. 14, Houston travels to Lafayette, La., to face Louisiana before heading to the Rae & Craig Blair Memorial Tournament where they will face the host school UTSA on Dec. 19 and Central Arkansas on Dec. 20.
