Angela Harris Named American Freshman of the Week

PROVIDENCE â€" Freshman point guard Angela Harris has been named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week for her outstanding play against Texas State and Mercer, the league office announced Monday.
"This an incredible accomplishment for Angela," Head Coach Ronald Hughey said. "For her to earn this award so early in her career is a testament to her hard work and a preview of her potential for the rest of her career."
Harris averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 steals over two games, while also picking up a pair of rebounds and two assists in 42 combined minutes of action. The award for the Cougars is the first this season, and the first since conference honor since Serithia Hawkins earned freshman of the week on Dec. 21, 2015.
Harris played a big role in the team's comeback effort against Texas State on Wednesday. The Cypress native led the way with 17 points, while pulling down a rebound and an assist. Harris also caused havoc on the defensive end coming away with seven steals.
This season, Harris has appeared in all five games, while making her first start against Mercer and is averaging 22.2 minutes per contest. She has scored 11.4 points per game and is 11-of-35 from beyond the arc.
