Roy earned the latest honor after placing a career-high six punts inside Tulane's 20-yard line in Houston's 30-18 win over the Green Wave on Saturday. Two of Roy's punts landed inside Tulane's 10-yard line, and his first punt led to Houston's first score as the Tulane punt returner muffed the high, hanging kick, and Houston's Jeremy Winchester recovered the live ball in the end zone for a touchdown.
Roy had a career-high 11 punts with an average of a 44.2 yards per punt, a career high average for games with multiple punts for the Bunyip, Australia, native.
Monday's honor for Roy is the sixth American Player of the Week honor this season for the Houston program and the second special teams honor following Brandon Wilson's honor on Sept. 5. Houston leads all teams with its six player of the week selections this season.
The freshman punter and his teammates return to action at 7 p.m. Thursday when they host No. 3 Louisville inside TDECU Stadium. Houston is the only program nationally to face two top-five programs in non-conference action this season and will look to become the first program nationally to defeat two top-five teams this season.
