HOUSTON - Sophomore Desiree Bowen and junior Selena Peters each scored to help the University of Houston Soccer team notch their first win in conference play this season, shutting out Temple 3-0, on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Peters got the Cougars on the board early in the first half. At the 15th minute of play, junior Hannah Dauzat slotted the ball to junior Vanessa Almaguer who crossed the ball to Peters. With a spin finish, Peters netted her fourth goal of the season and gave Houston the early lead.
The second period was all Houston. Off a cross from Dauzat, a Temple defender and the Owls' goalkeeper both made a move on the ball to clear it out, but the defender's attempt went past the goal line for an own goal to extend the Cougars' lead during the 55th minute of play.
In the 70th minute of play, Peters chipped the ball into the box finding Bowen for the Cougars' third goal of the night. Bowen's goal is her sixth of the season.
Goalkeeper Rachel Estopare picked up her fourth win of the season in her return to goal after being injured in the UTSA match. The Bend, Ore., native, tallied four saves and notched her fourth shutout and the Cougars' fifth of the season.
The Cougars improve to 6-3-1 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
