DALLAS -- The University of Houston Men's Golf program stood in third place Monday with a score of 714 following the first two rounds of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate at Royal Oaks Country Club.

Competing on the 7,068-yard, par-71 course, the Cougars opened Monday's play with a score of 358 and bettered that by two shots in the afternoon session. No. 14 Baylor held the first-day lead at 27-under 683 to stand 29 shots ahead of No. 46 New Mexico.

No. 20 Kent State (715) and Iowa (716) rounded out the top-five leaders.

Unlike most collegiate tournaments, the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate format calls for a 6-man lineup with the lowest five scores counting toward the team total.

Individually, Houston sophomore Logan Davis opened Monday with a 68 in the First Round and followed that with an even-par 71 to stand in sixth at 3-under 139.

Starting on No. 6, the Atascocita, Texas, native began his day with a birdie and followed that with four straight pars before running into trouble. After a bogey and double bogey in three-hole stretch on Nos. 11-13 moved him over par, Davis returned to even par with an eagle on the 563-yard, par 5 13th hole.

Despite another bogey on No. 16, Davis closed out his First Round with four birdies during his final six holes to finish at 3-under-68.

Davis fought off three bogeys with three birdies in his Second Round to finish the first day at 139, setting a career low through 36 holes.

Junior Papito Gonzalez was tied for 17th at 143, overcoming a tough 73 in the morning to shoot under par with a 70 in the afternoon session.

Redshirt freshman Zach Tracy continued his stellar play to start his collegiate career. After posting a 75 in the morning for the first total over par in his career, the Houston native rebounded to post a 69 in the afternoon and was tied for 24th at 144.

Tracy enjoyed five birdies in his Second Round to post the Cougars' second-lowest score of the day.

Junior Michael Perras was tied for 30th, while freshman Pryce Beshoory was tied for 38th at 146. Competing as an individual, junior Joshua Gibbons was tied for 44th at 147 with redshirt freshman George Gardner tied for 50th at 148.

Pepperdine's Roy Cootes and Baylor's Matthew Perrine tied for the first-day lead at 135. Baylor teammates Hunter Shattuck, Braden Bailey and Cooper Dossey were tied for third at 136.

FINAL ROUND PAIRINGS
The Final Round begins at 8:15 a.m., Tuesday, with a split-tee start off No. 1 and No. 10. The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Baylor and New Mexico, beginning at 9:09 a.m., off No. 1

Gardner starts the day at 9:09 a.m., with Beshoory (9:18 a.m.), Perras (9:27 a.m.), Tracy (9:36 a.m.), Gonzalez (9:45 a.m.) and Davis following (9:54 a.m.). Gibbons begins at 9:41 a.m., off No. 10.

Following the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, the Cougars continue their fall season when they compete at the Kaanapali Collegiate Classic on Nov. 4-6 at Kaanapali Golf Club in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i.
