PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Houston sophomore Rachel Estopare was named the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Over the weekend, Estopare earned two draws while collecting 22 saves allowing one goal in 220 minutes played. The Bend, Ore., native captured her fifth shutout and improved to 4-2-3 on the season.
In her first road appearance back from injury, Estopare notched 10 saves and a shutout for the Cougars during her 110 minutes in the net against Cincinnati on Thursday.
On Sunday at East Carolina, Estopare again spent all 110 minutes between the posts and finished with a season-best 11 saves. The Arizona transfer allowed just one goal, which was only the second goal allowed by Estopare in league play.
"We have done a great job in defending as a team and competing this season," Head Coach Chris Pfau said. "It is great knowing that if our team does allow them to get an opportunity that Rachel is in goal for us. She has done an incredible job this year of giving us a presence back there and doing a great job of controlling the game for us. I am very proud of her and what she has accomplished in one season with us."
