HOUSTON â€" Houston Softball and Head Coach Kyla Holas are excited to welcome freshman Breelyn Thames to the program for the 2016 season.
"We are looking forward to having Breelyn join the team this spring," Holas said. "She comes at a very needed time and I am excited to see what options she gives us. Her addition will help us get ready to hit the ground running for the spring season start."
Thames (pronounced Tims) comes to Houston after spending the fall semester at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. She will be immediately eligible to play upon arrival.
The 5-foot-3-freshman catcher was a four-year letterwinner from Lumberton High School. Thames was named first team all-district two straight years and helped Lumberton High School to its first playoff appearance since 2007. During her senior season, Thames was named District defensive MVP and a Wendy's 12-star athlete of the week. She was also selected to play in the 2015 Southeast Texas Coaches Association All-Star Game.
She also played club ball for the Texas Bombers HTX.
During her high school career, Thames was a three-time regional finalist in powerlifting and a two-time state finalist during her junior and senior seasons.
