HOUSTON - Two days away from his University of Houston head coaching debut, head coach Tom Herman has already received a high honor from the City of Houston as Houston mayor Annise D. Parker declared Sept. 3, 2015, as Tom Herman Day.
Houston City Councilman Dwight A. Boykins will officially present the proclamation to Herman on Thursday evening at Cage Rage, the annual UH Football student pep rally, inside TDECU Stadium.
The full proclamation reads:
On December 16, 2014, Tom Herman was named the 13th head coach of the University of Houston (UH) football team. His dedication to the football program is evident as he is the principal architect in recruiting some of the best Houston native football players, calling it the "H-Town Takeover." The enthusiasm and zeal shown for the UH Coogs and Houston by Tom Herman has raised the national level of enthusiasm for both, grasping the attention of USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, ESPN and Sports Illustrated, among others.
Born in Ohio and raised in California, Tom Herman has spent 11 years living in the great state of Texas, including two years in the great city of Houston as offensive coordinator at Rice.
Tom Herman has helped develop record-setting and explosive offenses in each of his 10 seasons as offensive coordinator, including his three seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Ohio State University.
While he was there he helped the Buckeyes win the 2015 College Football Championship with third-string quarterback Cardale Jones under center for the Big Ten Championship win over Wisconsin University and College Football Playoff wins over Alabama and Oregon.
The University of Houston is grateful to have Tom Herman at the helm of its football program and looks forward to the exciting days ahead at TDECU Stadium where fans of the University of Houston Cougars and the proud citizens of Houston can enjoy and support college football.
Therefore, I, Annise D. Parker, Mayor of the City of Houston, hereby proclaim September 3, 2015, as Tom Herman Day.
