Cougars Fall Just Short Against Cincinnati

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Cincinnati, in American Athletic Conference action, on Sunday, at Carl Lewis Field.
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Brown saved six shots while freshman forward Desiree Bowen registered a shot on goal, but the Cougars could not mount a comeback against the Bearcats in the team's second American Conference game of the season.
"This was an interesting game, because I was happy with the effort and for the most part the way we played," Head Coach Chris Pfau said. "But I was disappointed in the goal we gave up. We have been so much better in these past two games than we have over the last two years in our conference. We are playing with these teams and at times are doing some great things, but we are making some mental mistakes that are hurting us."
After a scoreless first half, Cincinnati found the scoreboard in the 63rd minute off of a corner kick. Rachel Holloway played the corner into the box where Kelsey Parrinello found Julie Gavorski for the score. The goal was Gavorski's second of the season.
"When we tire, we do not play smart, and then we have to work so much harder to get ourselves out of it that over a 90 minute game it is wearing us down," Pfau said. "If we can simplify things when we are not as good, then we will not give up these goals going forward. The good thing with this team is they see it too, and they are just as frustrated. They see how much we have closed the gap with these teams and how close we are to getting results. As I told them, just keep working harder and harder, and good things will happen."
