Nick Hernandez, a right-handed pitcher from Missouri City,Texas, comes to Houston after a two-year stint at Alvin CC, where he helped his team to a Conference Championship and was a two-time All-Conference pitcher. READ MORE ON Nick Hernandez
Q: When did you start playing baseball?
NH: I was playing t-ball at the age of five and the first ball that was ever hit to me went right between my legs on the pitcher's mound.
Q: Do you have any memorable baseball moments?
NH: My most memorable moment was in high school when we made it to the State Championship. Even though we lost, it was a great experience.
Q: What is your dream vacation spot and why?
NH: I had one, but I got away from it, but I believe I'm going to go back to it. When I'm pitching, between innings, I would take a bite of an apple. I started doing this because the apple gave me energy.
Q: Why did you decide to attend the University of Houston?
NH: I felt like the University of Houston and the baseball program were the best fit for me. I'm originally from Missouri City, right outside the city, and I love Houston.
Q: What's your favorite road trip snack?
NH: I would probably say Beaver Nuggets.
Q: What are a few words that describe yourself as a player?
NH: I'm dedicated and hardworking in everything I do on and off the field.
Q: What is a strength of yours as a pitcher?
NH: I would say my fastball is my strength and the fact that I can throw a lot of innings.
Q: If anyone could play you in a movie, who would you want it to be?
NH: George Clooney.
Q: What kind of music do you like?
NH: My music taste is pretty eclectic. I love country music when I'm driving, but I tend to listen to hip-hop or rap when I'm working out.
Q: What are you most excited about this season?
NH: I'm looking forward to the big games and playing for a great program at a big university.
