Cougars Crowned Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup Champs

HOUSTON -- After an exciting five set match, Houston Volleyball claimed the 2015 Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup championship with a 3-2 victory (20-25, 25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10) over Southeastern Louisiana Saturday afternoon.
Houston improves to 10-2 on the season and extends its win streak to four matches. This match marked the second five-set win of the season.
Southeastern opened up the match with a 25-20 victory in set one. The Lady Lions hit .619 in set one alone, not recording a single error. The Cougars came back in straight sets to take a 2-1 lead, forcing a fourth set.
Both teams were evenly matched in the fourth set, but Southeastern came out on top with a 25-23 win to force a decisive fifth set.
The Cougars were a dominant force at the net, hitting .412 in the fifth set while holding Southeastern to just five kills.
Freshman hitter Brookah Palmer led the Cougars with 23 kills, hitting .380 in the five-set win. She was one dig shy of her fifth double-double of the season. Sophomore Sarah Afflerbaugh posted 16 kills, hitting .308 with two service aces. Junior right side Hunter Wise followed with 12 kills (.333) of her own. Senior libero Olivia O'Dell tallied 25 digs and five assists.
O'Dell was named MVP of the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup for her outstanding leadership and performance this weekend. Palmer was also named to the All-Tournament team for her .467 hitting average (49-11-111) this weekend.
