Houston Baseball Spotlight: Jose Reyes

Jose Reyes comes to Houston after playing two seasons at Blinn College. A Houston product, Reyes played high school baseball at Dobie High School and earned Defensive MVP honors. READ MORE ABOUT JOSE REYES
Q: At what age did you start playing baseball and why?
JR: I started playing baseball at the age of five. I had older cousins that I looked up to that played and I just wanted to follow in their footsteps.
Q: Why did you choose to come to the University of Houston?
JR: University of Houston was the best choice for my family and I. Since I grew up in Galveston, my family will be able to come to all my home games and watch me play.
Q: What are you looking forward to most this school year?
JR: I'm looking forward to the baseball season for sure.
Q: How did you spend your summer?
JR: I spent my summer working out and have been on campus since July getting acclimated to life at the University of Houston.
Q: What do you like most about playing baseball?
JR: I like the feeling of actually playing, being around the guys, the adrenaline before the game starts and when the lights come on.
Q: How do you prepare before a game? Do you have any pre-game rituals?
JR: Not really, I'm a very superstitious guy. That's how all baseball players are it seems like. I don't step on the line or anything like that. Whatever you did before when you won a game, you do it again during the next game.
Q: Who is your favorite player of all-time?
JR: My favorite player of all-time is Derek Jeter. I like the way he carries himself and that he's the captain of baseball.
Q: Have you always played the position you are currently playing?
JR: I started playing outfield when I was little and then when I turned nine, I moved to shortstop. I've been playing that position ever since.
Q: What is your favorite type of music?
JR: Hip-hop and country
Q: What has been your biggest sports accomplishment thus far?
JR: Well, I'm a transfer from Blinn CC and we ended up making the JUCO World Series my freshman year. That ended up being a big moment in my career.
