HOUSTON â€" University of Houston Women's Golf star Megan Thothong was recognized Monday as a member of the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team.
Thothong earned the academic honor after posting a 3.904 cumulative grade-point average as a business administration major. She was one of 750 women's collegiate golfers who recorded a 3.50 cumulative GPA or higher during the 2014-15 school year.
As a freshman with the Cougars, Thothong made an impressive collegiate debut. The Dallas native ranked second on the team with a 74.41 scoring average and nine rounds of par or better.
Thothong â€" whose name is pronounced Toe-Tong â€" set a school record with a 68 in the Final Round at the UNF Collegiate on March 10. The Plano West Senior High product went on to lead the Cougars to their first team crown in program history and earned medalist honors at that tournament, joining current teammate Raegan Bremer as the only Cougars in school history to win individual titles.
She earned four top-10 finishes during her inaugural collegiate campaign, including three straight at the end of the fall and start of the spring seasons. After finishing seventh at the Jim West Challenge to cap the fall season, Thothong tied for ninth at the Delta Gamma Challenge before winning the UNF Collegiate title.
Thothong helped lead the Cougars to the NCAA San Antonio Regional, the program's first NCAA postseason appearance in only its second year of existence.
