Issac Williams Qualifies for NCAA Championship Finals

Eugene, Ore. - Junior hurdler Issac Williams matched a personal best in the 110m hurdles to qualify for the finals at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, at Hayward Field, in Eugene, Ore.
Williams clocked a season and personal best 13.56 in Heat 1 of the 110m hurdles to finish third in his heat behind NCAA leader Omar McLeod from Arkansas. After sweating out the two final heats in the semifinal, Williams finished with the third fastest overall time and advanced to the finals finishing with the top-time outside of the automatic qualifiers.
Williams, the only Cougar to compete in each of the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor championship meets, earned the right to run for an individual National Championship, and will be back in the 110m Hurdle finals on Friday, June 12 at 7:15 p.m.
The Cougar 4x100m relay team opened the NCAA Championship action with the first event in the evening session. After a tough exchange of the baton, the Cougars ran a 40.70, but was later disqualified following the race. The team of Williams, and juniors LeShon Collins and James Arnett and sophomore Curtis Brown earned the right to compete at the NCAA Championships after qualifying seventh (39.56) at the NCAA West Regional in Austin, Texas.
The second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships begins at noon on Thursday, June 11 with the men's decathlon 110m hurdles. The Cougar women's 4x100m Relay team will compete in the first running event of the day at 6 p.m.
The relay team consisting of seniors Kiersten Brewer, Sade-Mariah Greenidge and Brittany Kinney as well as sophomore Bria Carter clocked a season-best 44.52 at the NCAA West Regional to qualify with the sixth-fastest preliminary time. Houston will run in Heat 3 against the nation's top team in the regular season, Texas A&M, as well as SMU, Oklahoma, Texas, Purdue, Western Kentucky and UCF with the best two teams from each heat as well as the next two fastest overall times advancing to the finals on Saturday, June 13 at 4:05 p.m.
Greenidge will run twice Thursday afternoon, as she will compete in the women's 100m hurdle semifinal at 7:02 p.m. The Bridgetown, Barbados native clocked a season-best 13.31 to qualify ninth at the NCAA West Regional. Greenidge will be in Lane 1 of the second heat, where she will run against Cindy Ofili from Michigan, who holds the NCAA's third-best 100m hurdle time this season at 12.81. The finals of the 100m hurdles will consist of the best two times from each heat as well as the next two fastest times overall and will be held Saturday, June 13 at 4:45 p.m.
