HOUSTON - Former Houston wide receiver Deontay Greenberry became the second former Cougar to sign a free agent deal following the NFL Draft as he signed with the Dallas Cowboys Friday. Greenberry joins former Houston defensive tackle Joey Mbu who signed with the Atlanta Falcons Wednesday.
Greenberry, who elected to forego his senior season at Houston, led the Cougars in receiving each of the last two seasons and closed his career eighth on the UH career receptions chart with 201. The Fresno, Calif., native ranks ninth on the UH career receiving yards chart with 2,612 yards and eighth with 20 career receiving touchdowns.
He became just the sixth receiver in Houston history to record at least 70 receptions in two different seasons as he finished 2014 with 72 receptions for 841 yards and six touchdowns en route to earning second team American Athletic Conference honors.
Greenberry exploded for 1,202 yards and 11 touchdowns on 82 receptions in 2013, becoming the 17th player in Houston history to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in a season. His 1,202 yards ranked 10th on the Houston single-season charts as he earned first team American Athletic Conference honors and was named Houston's Andre Ware Offensive MVP.
