Cougars Drop In Semifinals to Tulsa

ORLANDO, Fla. - Houston Softball dropped a heartbreaker to league rival Tulsa Friday afternoon during the semifinals of the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at UCF Softball Complex.
The Cougars dropped to 28-27 on the season while the Golden Hurricane improved to 36-17. Tulsa advanced to the Championship Final Game tomorrow vs. UCF tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET.
Houston snagged the lead, 2-0, in the top of the third when freshman LF Kaylin Crumpton reached base on a fielder's choice. She advanced to third on a double down the left field line by senior Selena Hernandez. With one out, Shelby Miller knocked a base hit into right field, plating Crumpton and Hernandez.
The Golden Hurricane responded in the bottom of the fourth inning when they capitalized on a two-out double to the right center gap by pinch hitter Jocelyn Sheffield. A passed ball sent Sheffield to third and came home on the throwing error the following play.
Tulsa would add to its lead in the bottom of the fifth when the Golden Hurricane tallied three straight hits, forcing a pitching change for the Cougars. Two more singles and another fielder's choice by Tulsa plated three runs off five hits during the home half.
Sophomore RHP Shelby Miller (7-10) took the loss for the Cougars as she gave up four runs, two earned and six hits. Bailey Erwin (18-3) picked up the win for Tulsa. She pitched a complete game, allowing only two runs, a walk and struck out four.
