Joey Mbu Signs Free Agent Deal with Atlanta Falcons

HOUSTON - Former Houston defensive tackle Joey Mbu signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Atlanta Falcons the NFL club announced Wednesday. Mbu is one 19 college free agents who will join the team during the weekend's rookie minicamp and the first UH player to sign a free agent agreement since the conclusion of the NFL Draft.

Mbu finished his Houston career with his 34th career start in the Cougars' thrilling come-from-behind victory in the 2015 Armed Forces Bowl on Jan. 2. Mbu, who played in 50 career games for UH, ended the year with 32 tackles including 4.5 for a loss and 2.5 sacks while breaking up four passes and intercepting another.
A Reese's Senior Bowl invitee and a member of the 2014 American Athletic Conference First Team, Mbu finished his career at Houston with 92 career tackles, including 10.5 for loss, four sacks, eight pass breakups and two interceptions.

A team captain in 2014, Mbu was one of 21 defensive tackles invited to the 2015 NFL Combine and the only one from The American.
