LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior LHP Julana Shrum has been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Third Team, the organization announced Thursday morning. This is the first All-Region honor for Shrum and the ninth for the Houston Softball program in the last five years.
The Porum, Okla., native was the Cougars top pitcher this season as she posted a 2.62 ERA with a 13-10 record. She pitched 12 complete games with one shutout and two saves on the season. In her 149.1 innings pitched, Shrum allowed only 56 earned runs while striking out 68.
During American Athletic Conference play, Shrum posted a 1.44 ERA, the fifth best in the league. Her opposing batting average dropped to .201 for conference foes, ranking third in conference.
When Shrum wasn't leading the Cougars in the circle, she filled the designated hitter role. She hit .302 this season with 35 hits and 10 home runs while slugging .595. She ranks third in the league for home runs.
Earlier this season, Shrum was named The American Player of the Week after she belted five home runs in seven games including a grand slam in the 19-3 victory over Houston Baptist.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. The NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 4 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 28, via NFCA.org.
