PREVIEW: Softball Closes Season at Memphis

HOUSTON - Houston Softball closes out the 2015 regular season with the final American Athletic Conference series this weekend in Memphis.
The Cougars (26-24, 9-5 The American) face the Memphis Tigers (17-32, 4-11) Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. followed by the season finale at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Houston is looking to secure second place in the conference with a sweep this weekend.

• Houston enters the weekend on a two game high after sweeping Lamar in a midweek doubleheader Wednesday.
• Houston's pitching duo of Shelby Miller and Julana Shrum gave up only two earned runs in the doubleheader on Wednesday. Shrum pitcher her eighth complete game on Wednesday and posted a 0.00 ERA.
• Sophomore Shelby Miller was named American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week (Apr. 27). She pitched 13.0 innings allowing only two earned runs. In game one of the series she didn't allow a single earned run. Miller was the Cougars leading hitter this weekend as she hit .455 with her second home run of the season against the Tulsa battery.
• Senior SS Selena Hernandez led the Cougars as she went 4-for-6 with two home runs and a double in game two of the doubleheader vs. Lamar.
• She is the toughest student-athlete to strikeout in the conference and now ranks second in the nation. On Defense, Hernandez has been a part of 16 of Houston's 27 double plays turned this season. She also leads the conference with the most assists (154), second best for a single season in school history, followed by teammate Shelby Miller (92). Hernandez is just 16 away from breaking her own school record for most assists in a season.
• Freshman LF Kaylin Crumpton was plunked by a pitch of the 19th and 20th time this season vs. Lamar. She leads the conference for the most hit-by-pitches this season and ranked sixth in the nation for most HBP per game (0.42).
• In the 50 games played, Houston has turned 27 double plays - just one shy of tying the school record. The Cougars lead the conference with most DP turned this season and ranks sixth in the nation for most DP turned per game (0.56).

Selena Hernandez is the toughest to strikeout in the American Athletic Conference and second toughest in the Nation.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS
• Second in school history for most season assists (154). Holds school record for most assists in a season (169).
• Fifth most in career assists (323).
• Tied season best 16 double plays turned, stands fifth best in school history. Tied for second most career DPs turned (32).
• Leads the team offensively, batting .340 with 51 hits, 33 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, and 41 RBIs while slugging .600.
• Was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week (Apr. 6) and was selected to the honor roll twice (Feb. 9, Feb. 23).
• Reached base streak ended at 16, longest by a Cougar this season.

Freshman outfielder Kaylin Crumpton has taken one for the team, 20 to be exact. Crumpton has tallied 20 HBP this season, the fourth most in school history.
Crumpton leads the American Athletic Conference for most hit by pitches this season with 20 and now ranks sixth in the nation for averaging most hit by pitches per game (0.42).
Kendra Cullum broke the school record in 2013 with 38 and is ranked No. 2 in NCAA history for career hit by pitched (89).

• Last season, the Cougars broke the single-season record for most double plays turned (28).
