HOUSTON - University of Houston Women's Golf stars Raegan Bremer and Yuka Kajiki were honored for their impressive play during the 2014-15 season with places on the All-American Athletic Conference Team on Friday afternoon.
Bremer collected the award for the second straight season and was one of only four unanimous selections to the 12-woman squad. Competing as a true freshman, Kajiki earned the postseason honor for the first time in her career.
Houston, which checks in at No. 46 in the latest Golfstat national rankings, began the program just one year ago with three student-athletes competing as individuals at tournaments. The Cougars were not eligible for team competition under NCAA rules in their first season.
For the second straight season, Bremer emerged as the Cougars' leading performer, topping the team with a 73.86 scoring average and 10 rounds of par or better. The Anaheim, Calif., native compiled seven top-20 finishes in 10 events this season, including five top-10 showings.
She enjoyed a fourth-place finish at the spring-opening Delta Gamma Challenge in mid-February and followed that with a sixth-place finish at the UNF Collegiate to help lead the Cougars to the team championship, a first in program history. In her most recent action, Bremer finished sixth at the American Athletic Conference Championships, her second straight top-6 showing at the league's annual postseason event.
Kajiki joined the Cougars this season out of Monteverde Academy in Monteverde, Fla., and made an immediate impact in her first collegiate season.
She ranked third on the team with a 75.42 average and four rounds of par or better and gave a glimpse of things to come with a third-place finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational in the second event of her career in September.
That was the first of three top-10 finishes this season. She recently tied for third at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 21-23. With her Final-Round 68 at that event, Kajiki enjoyed her career low round and tied the school record, first set by teammate Megan Thothong on March 10 at the UNF Collegiate.
UCF swept the individual awards. Sophomore Ashley Holder was named the league's Player of the Year, while Laura Sojo was recognized as the Freshman of the Year. Emily Marron was honored as the Coach of the Year.
Bremer and Kajiki were joined on the All-American Athletic Conference Team by Holder, Sojo, Frida Gustafsson Spang (East Carolina), Jenny Haglund (SMU), Michaela Fletcher (Memphis), Monifa Sealy (UCF), Ashley Burke (USF), Gemma Dryburgh (Tulane) and Emily Penttila (Tulane).
